Governor Newsom Issues Regional Stay-At-Home Order
Due to increasing cases of COVID-19 Governor Gavin Newsom has ordered non-essential travel to be restricted for 3 weeks for regions with less than 15% ICU capacity.
Gatherings of any size will be prohibited, the order closes many businesses except for critical infrastructure and retail, and requires enforced mask-wearing and social/physical distancing. Retail would be limited to 20% capacity, take out only for restaurants, hotels and offices would be limited for “critical infrastructure” employees. Personal services, playgrounds, breweries, and wineries would be closed.
The order will be lifted only when a region’s ICU capacity meets or exceeds 15%.
“If we don’t act now our hospital system will be overwhelmed… we’ll continue to see a death rate climb,” Newsom said. “Remember: this is temporary. Hope is on the way. Relief is on the way. A vaccine is coming — with first doses arriving in the next few weeks. We can get through this — together.”
The regions are defined as:
